My experience of studying jane Austen's novel "Sense and Sensibility".

                             "Sense and sensibility" is one of the best novel written by jane Austen. Jane Austen wrote this novel in romantic age. This novel was published in 1811. She reflects many themes and reality in her novel.

About Novelist:-

                         Jane Austen was born on December 16, 1775, in Steventon, Hampshire, England. She wrote many novels. Sense and Sensibility was her first novel. Her father was George Austen, and her mother was Cassandra Austen. Austen died on 18 July 1817, at the age of 41.

➡️ My first impression of the novel:-

                       At first, upon reading the title of the novel Sense and Sensibility, I didn't understand what it might be about. However, when I read the first page, I realized that the novel was about two sisters.

➡️ My experience of reading and understanding the story:-

                          The novel *Sense and Sensibility* features numerous characters and themes. When I first read the novel, I struggled to understand the relationships between the various characters. However, as I continued reading, everything became clear. I realized that Jane Austen had written this novel exploring themes of love, marriage, and class distinctions.

➡️  My response to the characters, especially Elinor and Marianne:-

                         The novel Sense and Sensibility features many characters, among whom Elinor and Marianne are the central figures. In the novel, Elinor represents 'sense,' while Marianne represents 'sensibility.' Although they are sisters, there is a significant difference in their temperaments.

Elinor:-

                     Elinor is my favourite character of this novel. Elinor is elder daughter of Dashwood family. She is calm and rational. She doesn't present her emotions. Elinor represents sense in this novel. She loved Edward Ferrars. When she learns about the engagement of Edward Ferrars and Lucy, she does not express her sorrow.

Marianne:-

                        Marianne is the second daughter of the Dashwood family; in the novel, she embodies the quality of "sensibility." She believes that emotions should be expressed openly rather than kept under control. She falls in love with a man named Willoughby and is deeply heartbroken when he leaves her. Eventually, she comes to understand the value of "sense" and marries Colonel Brandon.

                         The novel features many other characters who represent various themes. Among them is Mrs. Dashwood—from the Dashwood family—who is the mother of Elinor and Marianne.

John Dashwood is Mrs. Dashwood's stepson, and Fanny is John's wife; she is extremely selfish.

                           From the Ferrars family, Mrs. Ferrars is Fanny's mother. Edward Ferrars is Mrs. Ferrars's eldest son; he is in love with Elinor but remains loyal to his existing engagement to Lucy. Eventually, he marries Elinor. Robert Ferrars is Mrs. Ferrars's younger son.

                         There is a character named Willoughby in the novel. Marianne loved Willoughby, but he left her. He apologized to Marianne, yet he did not break off his engagement to Mrs. Grey because of the money involved.

➡️ The themes or idea that interested me:-

Sense vs. sensibility:-

                         I found the theme of 'Sense and Sensibility' in the novel interesting. There is a distinction between the two terms: Elinor embodies 'sense,' while Marianne embodies 'sensibility.'

Expectation vs. Reality:-

                        In this novel, Austen portrays the expectations versus the reality regarding love, marriage, and money. Marianne holds high expectations of Willoughby; she considers him a good man and envisions a future with him. However, reality turns out differently. Willoughby leaves her, leaving Marianne heartbroken.

➡️ Conclusion:-

                        I have learned a lot from this novel. In it, Austen discusses love, marriage, money, and different social classes. There is something to be learned from all the characters.
